We’re always interested in learning about the journey our customers take as they implement their oil testing and analysis programs. By learning about a customer’s experience, you can gain valuable insights into program improvement or perhaps even avoiding possible pitfalls when implementing a new program.
First up, we talked with Shayne Rose, Quality Manager & Applications Engineer from Cleanfix North America, manufacturers of multi-patented reversing fan solutions to clean radiators, contribute to optimal cooling and extend the lives of machines in high-dust environments.
Perceptions of Oil Analysis
Cleanfix’s oil sampling program was originally initiated by a customer request. Once the value-added benefit was understood, the program was continued, and leadership has been on-board with the program and overall process ever since. Mr. Rose indicated that “the thought of the oil being sent to a lab for analysis really helps emphasize to all employees how important hydraulic cleanliness [is] in all aspects of the business.”
Advice to Companies
When Cleanfix started on their oil analysis program journey, they were new to the process and basically ‘didn’t know what they didn’t know’. As Mr. Rose indicated, they “weren’t prepared to ask the right questions”. When asked what advice Mr. Rose’s would give to companies implementing a new oil analysis program today, he mentioned four key items:
- Ask a lot of questions about the services available from the lab
- Do a thorough evaluation of the monitoring platform before committing [e.g., myLab]
- Spend the time upfront to set up a clearly defined program
- Ensure the lab understands your maintenance requirements and priorities
Partnership in Oil Analysis
Fluid Live believes strong two-way communication. We work hard to create a partnership with the companies we work with. Defining priorities, understanding the testing requirements, and developing and optimizing a program that works is as critical to us as it is to our customers.
